| Previous Osaka races: | Has not previously competed | |
| Reasons for Competing: | Because it is probably one of the more challenging two handed races in the world - AND it starts from the worlds best city - Melbourne. Whilst out watching the start of the 1991 Race with my family on my then boat I promised my youngest son Hamish that one day we would do the race together. Now is that time. | |
| Expectations: | To have a challenging race and finishing in a competitive position | |
| Looking forward to: | Getting there safely and seeing my wife Pam again but enjoying the experience and the challenge along the way. | |
| Years sailing: | All my life. My father and grandfather were Master Mariners and I grew up in sailing boats in the Pacific Islands and in Australia. | |
| Favourite waters: | The Eastern Mediterranean the Philippines and New Zealand are pretty good for cruising. Hong Kong is just an experience, particularly when racing Etchells between the island and Kowloon. Melbourne is great for racing but the Whitsundays are very special and fantastic for both racing and cruising. Forget Sydney. | |
| Favourite sailing experience: | Most of them | |
| Sailing Achievements: | I have been fortunate enough to have been relatively successful in racing over the years as well as undertake many other significant sailing experiences both racing and cruising |

| Previous Osaka races: | Has not previously competed | |
| Why did you choose to compete? | Because it is the longest non stop two handed race in the world (currently) and I have grown to love two handed sailing. Also because it is part of a pact my father & I made some years ago. | |
| Expectations: | To learn, gain experience, have fun and with the right luck – win. | |
| Looking forward to: | The competition. The thrill of the race, the rush you get when you are racing along at 12+ knots of boat speed with full main and kite and not having to worry about imminently having to round a mark. Looking for that next wave to surf down. To enjoy the journey. | |
| Years sailing: | All my life. My parents have always sailed so I was on a boat within weeks of being born. | |
| Favourite waters: | I don’t have a favourite yet. I hope that in the years to come I will experience many great places. Noumea is pretty special though. | |
| Favourite sailing experience: | Hopefully this race. The fierce competition and close racing of the Sydney 38 fleet was however always a great rush. | |
| Sailing Achievements: | I have had some good results over the years but I was delighted with our results in the new boat in the Skandia Geelong Week Regatta this year where we were 2nd to the internationally renowned Open 60 “Hugo Boss” in the Melbourne – Geelong Passage Race which we followed up with convincing overall positions in the Top of the Bay Regatta where we won the AMS Division and the PHD Division with wins in all races bar one and a third in IRC division. |
