City of Osaka
Osaka is a city in Japan, on southern Honshu, capital of Osaka
Prefecture, a port on Osaka Bay, at the mouth of the Yodo
River, near Kyoto. By the incorporation of its suburbs, Osaka
has become one of the largest cities in Japan, both in area
and in population.
The city is the centre of the Hanshin Industrial Zone. It
ranks among the busiest ports in the country and accommodates
major ocean-going vessels. Osaka is also a financial and commercial
centre. Industries include the manufacture of steel, machinery,
chemicals, textiles, ships, motor vehicles, electrical equipment,
and cement. The airport of Osaka is a key point in the air
routes of Japan.
